PT-VME900 supplies a high-performance channel for coupling VMEbus-basedworkstation systems to external Multibus (IEEE 796) subsystems. TheVMEbus subsystem host supplies bus arbitration and other typical systemcontroller functions. The Multibus subsystem connected to theworkstation, designated as the nonhost subsystem, functionally appears asan extension of the workstation VMEbus.The VMEbus and Multibus 16-MB standard address and 64-KB short I/Oaddress range are divided into host and nonhost segments. VMEbus mastersin the workstation host can access Multibus slaves in the nonhostsubsystem, and Multibus masters in the nonhost subsystem can accessnonhost Multibus slaves or host VMEbus slaves in the workstation.Definition of host and nonhost address segments is provided byprogrammable array logic on the PT-VME900 interface modules. Multibussystems using only 20-bit addressing are fully supported by a software-programmable register.
